Kvadrat is a Danish textile company that supplies high quality fabrics to some of the worlds leading architects and furniture makers. Founded in 1968, the company has always worked closely with designers and artists to create new designs (including chaps like Peter Saville, Olafur Eliasson and Raf Simons), and Kvadrat textiles appear in renowned buildings such as The Gherkin in London, Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, The Reichstag Berlin, Guggenheim Bilbao in Spain, the Copenhagen Opera House in Denmark, Yves St. Laurent in Paris and the Oslo Opera House in Norway.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of it's Divina fabric, Kvadrat invited 22 designers and artists to re-interpret the fabric for a special Salone del Mobile exhibition in Milan. I went behind the scenes of the photo shoot for Frame magazine, on the day that Jerszy Seymour created his piece - called "The Council for the Progenesis of the Archaic Festival" - by taking a chainsaw to a stonehenge of Divina fabric and chopping it up for about 28 minutes while a monotone beat in the background.
